EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE

CURIOSITY STREAM & CURIOSITY RETREATS

Physicists ask, “What is the Universe?” “What is Dark Matter?” “How Does String Theory fit into our understanding of the Universe as we know it?”

Curiosity Retreats and CuriosityStream at Hendricks Investment Holdings:

Created by John Hendricks, the founder of the Discovery Channel, the Curiosity Project began an exciting new initiative, bringing experts, luminaries, and the lifelong curious together in an inspiring Colorado retreat setting to explore the great questions and issues of our time. curiositystream.com

The project launched in 2014 with two Curiosity Retreats that were held at Gateway Canyons Resort located southwest of Grand Junction, Colorado in the magnificent red rock canyon country at the Colorado-Utah border.  The Curiosity Project unfolded as a multi-platform blend of retreat offerings and online initiatives catering to the global community of curious minds.

At the heart of the Curiosity Project is the exclusive Curiosity Retreat event which takes place over four days on topics in four thematic areas: science, technology, civilization and the human spirit.  Some of the luminary speakers included Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Rudy Tanzi, Physicist Brian Greene, Historian David McCullough, Political Theorist Prof. Danielle Allen, Physicist Dr. Michio Kaku. Richard Sergay helped architect a world class Advisory Board that included Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis, Father of the Internet Dr. Vint Cerf, Former Imagineering R&D President Bran Ferren, Humane Society of the United States President Wayne Pacelle, Medical Futurist Dr. Richard Satava.

The second and equally important initiative of the Curiosity Project launched in the virtual world of the Internet, where the lectures and on camera interviews conducted in the Curiosity Studios were made available to a global audience on a brand new subscription on demand (SVOD) platform called CuriosityStream. CuriosityStream created a richer conversation on the web, a “classroom in the cloud” with no boundaries except the limits of the human mind. It has become a new home for enduring dialogues on the significant questions and debates of our time.

Over 200 on camera interviews were conducted in the Curiosity Studios with thought leaders across all disciplines -- from Art through Zoology. The site, which includes both short and long form, has become a new home for enduring dialogues on the significant questions and debates of our time. CuriosityStream also features original productions, series, documentaries and special content from the world’s leading non-fiction producers including the BBC, NHK and Terra Noa.

With these efforts – the unique retreats and the online initiative – the Curiosity Project helped create and contribute to a significant new offering in the world of lifelong learning and education for the insatiably curious.
